Students from
Cornwall College Newquay were given the chance to learn more about wildlife film making and editing from international award winning cameraman Jeff Goodman recently.

Based in Cornwall and working globally, with over 30 years experience in Wildlife, Underwater, Aerial and Sound Sync Lighting Camera work, Jeff’s credits include working for the BBC, Channel 4, National Geographic, Discovery USA and Discovery Europe amongst many others.

The Wildlife Education and Media Foundation Degree students spent a week with Jeff learning how to film and edit video footage they had taken at Newquay Zoo.

Jeff describes in detail techniques he has shared with the students. “I have been teaching the students about camera techniques, techniques of film making including planning, researching and story boarding. We have also spent time down at the zoo filming various animals using different lighting techniques and dealing with the animal behaviour! We then spent time in the editing suite putting the films together and at the end of the week long session we showed all the students’ work in the lecture theatre. It was a fantastic week and the students were great to work with.”

foxStudent Katie Reed said: “It has been amazing working with Jeff and being able to gain from his experience. He’s taught us a lot and it’s been great fun. We have learnt lots of different techniques and also improved on what we know already so it has been great.”

Elaine Drury said: “Jeff has taught us how to get the best out of the camera equipment. He has also given us great critiques of our work and we have been really lucky to have him. The knowledge Jeff has been able to teach us have been fantastic and will definitely help us when working on assignments throughout the rest of the year.”
